Pioneering Ophthalmic Surgery in DenverA Legacy of Surgical Firsts. A Commitment to Better Vision.
At Associates in Eyecare, innovation isn’t just about having the latest technology. It’s about bringing meaningful advances in eye surgery to ourpatients.
Dr. Matthew Kruger has been a pioneer in introducing advanced corneal surgical techniques and intraocular lens technologies to Denver. For more than a decade, he has been at the forefront of surgical innovation, helping expand treatment options for patients with cataracts, corneal disease, and complex lens conditions.
A Timeline of Surgical Firsts in Denver2014 | DMEK Corneal Transplantation
First in Denver
Dr. Kruger became the first surgeon in Denver to perform Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), an advanced technique that replaces only the diseased innermost layers of the cornea. DMEK can provide excellent visual recovery while preserving more of the patient’s natural corneal tissue compared with traditional full-thickness transplantation.
2016 | Yamane Secondary Lens Implantation
First in Denver
Dr. Kruger introduced the Yamane technique to Denver, bringing an innovative method of scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation to patients without adequate natural lens capsule support. This technique provides an important surgical option for patients with complex cataract complications, dislocated lenses, or prior ocular trauma.
2021 | A New Generation of Cataract Lens Technology
First in Denver to Introduce Three Advanced Lens Technologies
- Light Adjustable Lens (LAL): An innovative intraocular lens that allows surgeons to customize lens power after cataract surgery using specialized light treatments.
- AcrySof IQ Vivity: A nondiffractive extended-depth-of-focus lens designed to provide a broader range of functional vision.
- TECNIS Eyhance: An enhanced monofocal lens designed to improve intermediate vision while preserving high-quality distance vision.
2026 | TECNIS PureSee
First in Denver
Continuing his history of innovation, Dr. Kruger became the first surgeon in Denver to introduce the TECNIS PureSee intraocular lens, a newer extended-depth-of-focus technology designed to provide a continuous range of vision while maintaining a visual disturbance profile closer to that of a monofocal lens.
Innovation With a Purpose Being first is meaningful only when it benefits patients.
Dr. Kruger’s commitment to surgical innovation reflects a broader philosophy at Associates in Eyecare: combining advanced technology, extensive surgical experience, and individualized treatment to achieve outstanding patient care.
